- percy jackson isn't the super badass crawly perfect homo beingness that a lot of the fandom glorifies him to be. granted he's super powerful and he'south done super heroic things but i feel like the fandom likewise erases or glorifies the fact that he's genuinely been abused and he has a lot of personality problems because of that along with his other traumatic experiences of existence a super powerful demigod that anybody wants to kill, such as anger issues and severe depression. he'south also not very approachable which i think should be noted
- annabeth gets all this flack for being a traumatized teenage girl. give her a pause we didn't get any of her unfiltered thoughts throughout all of the percy jackson series and i hate that she gets more shit for existence a female. of course her behavior is erratic she was never taught to human activity dissimilar
- jason deserved to have more character than rick gave him and i genuinely believe that he could've had the potential to be a fantastic character but instead rick simply threw in twists (thalia, his death) and was just like haha this'll brand up for information technology!! no he deserved a genuine personality other than existence a stone-faced leader and a bad at romance teenage boy

@retrowave-detective - 80s/retrowave/vaporwave inspired urban fantasy. With great reluctance, the protagonist travels to Hell's Miami in search of a stolen soul. Simply his piece of work brings him into conflict with a demon mafia, who become convinced he'south an angel who snuck into hell. Cassette futurism type engineering and religious elements. Probably role of a serial. Gay enemies to lovers slow burn. Function of my transman mysteries

Isolated from his small Alabama town later on being outed by his abusive family unit, a transman is dragged into trouble when a mysterious box is donated to the museum he works at. The box supposedly contains items belonging to the infamous occultist Randolph Carter - and not long after, the spirit of the man himself appears to the protagonist, asking for help to hide and escape from the god Nyarlathotep. But tin can he be trusted? Can anyone? Nighttime story, with elements of religious trauma, transphobia, racism, abuse, and more. Probably not for the faint of heart.
@cirque-du-maudit - An evil circus novella. Later on witnessing a car accident, a immature adult female is locked in a strange other dimension, run by the malicious demon Ringmaster Maverick Kane, his living doll 2d in command General Jester and the mysterious undead human from Ancient Egypt Ahmose Kem. Surviving the homicidal wrath of the circus inhabitants is but the beginning of the story for the woman they've named Little Cherry-red. Dark fantasy serial with enemies to lovers contrary harem romance/polyamory.

Amos is definetly a very cool graphic symbol, although I don't call back much of him sadly, so lamentable if these are a little underwhelming.
Then, like I said in the other tkc headcanons inquire, none of the Kanes are straight, I personally feel like Amos is either gay or pan? But idk.
From time to fourth dimension (whenever he is costless) he visits the Nome 21 at night and plays jazz for like 3 hours straight to all the kids that desire to take a residual and listen, everyone enjoys those nights.
He apace takes a liking to Walt, at first they wonder if it'due south because they actually enjoy each other's company or if it'southward considering the whole Seth and Anubis thing, merely in the terminate they decide they don't actually care as long as everyone is happy.

Cartoon tropes in PJO and extended universe
Not all these tropes are skillful, non all these tropes are bad. Information technology is just very interesting how RR put these tropes which are more common in a visual animated medium into a children'southward book series considering cartoons are what the x year olds reading these books accept experiance with.
Most of the characters take a colour scheme, often one that corresponds to some cartoon trope, or shows some connectedness between them
Percy and Thalia equally children of the big three take a blackness-blue thing going on, and Nico and Bianca have something simmilar, just less blue.
Healer characters are usually yellow in some mode. Magnus and Volition's simmilarities are non coincidences
In MCATGOA, TJ is bluish and Mallory is scarlet, which corresponds to TJ existence more level headed (only still willing to Take THE Colina) and Mallory existence a bit more than scary
People take already pointed out the light/dark matter Nico and Will have going on
Hearth and Blitz have the same light(hearth is blond and partially white scarf)/dark(blitzen has nighttime hair and beard and wears dark dress over his whole trunk to hide from the lord's day) thing going on, too equally a short/tall thing. Aye, this ways that Blitzstone, according to cartoon tropes, is catechism
I'd argue that a lot of couples take the calorie-free/night matter, including Percabeth and Leo and Calypso (to a lesser extent)
Nico is a night coloured character, which is mutual for tag-along kids turned modest antagonists (remember Varian from Tangled: the Series)
The more than wildly varied a character's colour scheme is tells us how weird they are (Rachel, Alex, Meg are all odd, artistic people, and then Grover, a less entusiastic character with the archetype green/chocolate-brown colours)
I've talked about this before, merely Alex and Sam both having dark-green in their colour scheme to show they are shapeshifters and children of Loki, simply Alex having brighter colours showing she/he is taking Loki'southward ability for her/himself and Sam wearing a more muted green hijab showing she supresses Loki'southward power. The fact that her hijab is green instead of some other peice of vesture could be foreshadowing for when she fasts in order to proceeds enough willpower to take on Loki, showing that she uses her faith and religeous practices to combat Loki'due south control over her
Both Grover and Sam, the heralds to Percy and Magnus, have a green/brown colour scheme which heralds often accept (think Hagrid and Yoda)
Riordan falls into the peppery ruby-head trope a couple of times as well, which could be treated equally an extention of the red-coded character trope (or Rick could only have something against cherry haired people-he does have a history of falling into uncomfortable tropes based on concrete advent)
There are few non binary characters in cartoons, but if Double Trouble from the She-Ra reboot is whatever indication, we may start to see a green nb character trope sally (though this might just exist an extension of the dark-green shapeshifter trope because people suck and like to make non binary characters shapshifters)
5 Man Bands seem to exist common also
Percy (leader) Thalia (lancer) Tyson (brawn) Annabeth (brain) and Grover (heart) is some other trope most ordinarily associated with animated shows, and they stick to the traditional color scheme a fleck with Percy existence bluish, and Tyson beingness yellow. Grover is a light-green/brown character, and that is usually associated with the brain or mentor characters (think Pidge or Yoda) but in more non-traditional five man ring set ups I've seen green and dark-brown as a minor colour for hearts
This v man band has the bonus of a tag forth child in the form of Nico, who does have tag forth kid colours
Floor 17 and Sam also kinda a five human band, with Magnus-leader, Alex-lancer, TJ-center, Mallory-brawn, Halfborn-brain, and then Sam a 6th ranger. I say its but kinda a five homo band set up, because Mallory and Halfborn sometimes switch their roles or even share the part of brawn with Sam becoming the brain, making the fmb non traditional
Percy, Annabeth, Tyson, and Grover could be said to fufill the four humors trope. If yous don't know what that is, basically some sometime dead white guy idea in that location were 4 fluids in people's bodies that controled their emotional states and each fluid corresponds to someone being either introverted or extroverted, and being either emotionally stable or emotionally unstable.
Tyson is introverted/emotionally stable (phlegmatic), Grover is introverted/emotionally unstable (melancholic), Percy is extraverted/emotionally stable (sanguine), and Annabeth is extraverted/emotionally unstable(choleric). Annabeth and Percy sometimes bounce around and switch humors, merely for the most part, this is how they are portrayed in the book
Proceed in heed that emotionally unstable doesn't really hateful emotionally unstable, it ways more than reckless or excitable. Information technology shows that the person is able to change emotions more than regularly than if they are emotionally stable, in which case they have simply a couple primary emotions. What I'm saying is Grover and Annabeth arent in less control of their emotions than the other two, just that Grover is more scared easily/cautious (but he is nonetheless super brave) and Annabeth sometimes does weird stuff similar judo flip Percy that one time (Rick Riordan, why???)
If you want an example of this trope in cartoons, look at the TMNT, if you desire an instance of this trope elsewhere, wait at the main male person characters in Romeo and Juliet
There is probably also an example of the four humors in the Kane Chronicles, but I read those books too long agone to retrieve
I mentioned this earlier simply shapeshifting being a metaphor for being trans is weirdly common in media, especially kids media. I can listing off about iii times as many shapeshifter trans characters in kids media as just regular trans characters, and its gotten to the point where my 11 yr onetime cousin really pointed it out to me that all of the transgender characters in the books hes read take been shapeshifters of one kind or another
I think this ^ trope originated, or at least was solidified by Loki, and so RR gets a pass for information technology, information technology is still only weird how common the trope is otherwise
The contrary sibling trope happends with Thalia and Jason, and Sadie and Carter
The half-identical twin trope happends with the Stolls
The disfigureing-scar-shows-someone-is-evil trope happends with Luke, as well equally Loki
Dissability equally superpower trope happends with demigods having dyslexia to read greek and ADHD for its hypervigilance
Alex Fierro may be read every bit tsundere
RR doesnt impale his gays (I mean, sometimes technically he does), but he sure puts them through hell (litterally in some cases)
These books also fufill a lot of other tropes, but I don't feel qualified to talk near them, every bit I don't take as much experiance with them

and then niki has ii dads. then what?
if you say anything nearly it, she'll boot you. and if principal kane wants to meet with her fathers, and so and then be it.
that just happens twice - first with steve, who walks in with sunglasses loftier on his face, a cup of coffee in mitt, and a stance that makes the shorter man in front of him admittedly uncomfortable. niki is about gleeful as she watches her dad stare blankly at the main, and so tug his glasses downward to eye him more than critically. non a give-and-take is spoken, at that place isn't a audio outside of the gentle swishing acquired by niki's feet kicking back and along. when the silence is cleaved, it's by steve, voice bored and uncaring.
"what's the problem, mister kane?" principal kane looks a little intimidated by the man in front of him - equally he should be, niki knows.
"uh - well, uh, you see, nikita got in another fight again with a student, and -"

"joey carter said that nobody wants to be my friend because i have two dads and that's wrong." joey is full of shit, as uncle dustin likes to say. she has plenty of friends, and all her friends beloved her papa and her dad. because steve always makes them the all-time snacks and takes them on all sorts of trips and takes the time to get to know the kids. and billy lets them do his makeup and carries them effectually the house while they squeal in delight. their parents might have been unsure at outset, but steve and billy have made friends with virtually of niki'southward friends' parents. only the carters are gross people and their son is no exception as far equally the eight-year-old is concerned.
"thank you," steve hums, before turning back to principal kane. the hand he'd held upwards to cease his talking lowers again and he places information technology on his other hip. "principal kane, where is joey?"

"joey's parents are bigots, i know that very well, and i'm not surprised joey'due south picked upwardly on it. but if nikita here said fuck in course, you'd reprimand her for foul language, yep?" he peers through his sunglasses while principal kane nods vigorously.
"of course we would." steve nods his approving.
"i take comfort in that." the spectacles come up off after that, and steve leans forward to encounter the shorter man's gaze. "now, if i of your students says hateful comments towards another, would you do the same thing, mister kane?" niki grins at the way her chief shifts uncomfortably.
"I - I suppose, yes," he stammers.
"yous suppose," steve repeats, mean and critical. "well, in that case, if you suppose, i suggest you get to calling the carters. nikita and i are going to get out you to it." master kane tries speaking up, just steve's already got his sunglasses back on and he holds his hand out to the smaller brunette in the room. "let's go, honey. say goodbye to main kane." nikita hops off the chair and waves a cheery goodbye earlier happily walking out with her hand in her dad's.
subsequently that night, he's reading her a story and she snuggles against his side, enjoying the gentle brush of his fingers through her curly pilus, and she tin can't assistance herself.
"hey, dad?" steve stops reading, sets the book down to expect downward at her.
"yes, baby?" and now nikita huffs, considering she doesn't know what she wants to ask. they've talked about this earlier, both about gender and sex, and sexuality. she knows some people think something's incorrect with her dads, but she doesn't hear information technology oftentimes. it shakes her a footling when she does.
"why are people so mean?" she settles on. steve'south confront falters a piffling.

"mister hargrove!" principal kane cuts in sharply. "i will not take yous threatening misses hartwell like that!" baton turns on the man with an assailment nikita has never seen from her pa, a wild gleam in his glare and his lips fix in a snarl. the principal shrinks back.
"what a time to abound a spine," he bites. "you lot've let her walk all over my swain and i, i'll say whatsoever the hell i want." principal kane looks a little scared, backs down pretty chop-chop. only billy is on a gyre. "i know how this works. yous remember steve and i don't know what assholes like you say behind our backs? huh? well, we do. and it'due south fucking ridiculous. steve has more than balls than you-" an accusatory finger gets thrown in principal kane'southward face up - "and more form than anyone in this stupid hick town is capable of. and yous know what? i get it, nosotros tin't stop you from being ignorant dicks. but what i can do, and what i will do, is step in when someone brings this shit to my little daughter. exercise you get that?" billy's yelling stops and both adults look at him wide-eyed with stupor. jeremy looks scared, and niki thinks he should exist. with a decisive nod, billy ends the conversation, he scoops niki upwardly after that and she can experience him shaking equally she hides in the condom of the crook of his neck. "you wanna sue us? sue united states of america. we'll render the goddamn favor, trust me." and he stomps out to his car and just stands out at that place for a lilliputian while, clinging to nikita until she stops sniffling.
they don't actually talk on the way habitation, and when they both enter the house steve looks a little confused.

"okay, good." baton nods, reaching a manus out and rubbing her shoulder. "people like misses hartwell and her kid, they don't - they don't get it. and i'm so sorry that you had to hear it, and that you lot had to hear me yell similar that."
"and say all those words dad tells you not to?" she adds quietly. billy breathes out a laugh.
"and hear me say all those words dad tells me not to say," he agrees. it gets a laugh out of nikita, much to billy's relief, and he leans forrard to hold her by both her shoulders at present. "i'm serious, babycakes. i don't intendance what people like that say. you're my baby, you hear me? always mine."
"e'er yours," she echoes, leaning forward and throwing her arms around him in a hug. billy plants as many kisses as he can manage on her head and confront, before laying her back downward and adjusting her covers.
"i honey you, light-green bean," he tells her, and she murmurs in kind before watching him move to the door. he pauses when he gets in that location, then turns to her sheepishly.
"hey, about the bad words," he hums. "i won't say annihilation about information technology to dad if you won't. deal?" nikita makes a thoughtful face.
"tin can i accept ice cream and a kitten?" he snorts at that.
"y'all have several kittens, baby. merely ice foam is doable."
and when amy hartwell knocks on the door the adjacent afternoon talking nearly billy's offensive language, he only gets a claim of innocence from his beau and a confused look from his daughter who doesn't retrieve a single bad give-and-take from the meeting. steve looks back at the adult female and misses the smiling nikita shares with billy as she chomps on a seize with teeth of ice cream.

Hey cutie! It was a sad thing indeed, more so considering I learnt a great many things from the Harry Potter serial. But don't worry, allow me introduce y'all to one writer who doesn't put up with any kind of hate and nonsense.
Encounter Rick Riordan, or Uncle Rick as his fans like to phone call him. He's the author of the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series (and others similar Heroes of Olympus, the Kane Chronicles, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, etc).
Why I'd recommend him to you? Other than the fact that he is hands down one of the wittiest, funniest and best fantasy writers out there, he is too one of the most inclusive.
Proof?
one) Inclusivity of LGBTQ+ characters. Unlike JKR who only said that her characters are gay, Uncle Rick actually shows that representation. Nico di Angelo and Will Solace are 1 of the near admired gay couple. Nico'southward acceptance of his sexuality has been beautifully portrayed and so has their relationship.
To add to this, let me tell you nigh Alex Fierro, the first gender fluid character I had ever read as one of the mains in any book. This is a huge victory for the trans community, to run across a character who represents them and their struggle.
ii) Diverse characters. Uncle Rick doesn't limit himself to anything mainstream. He has characters from various races and religious background, and he does extensive enquiry on them to accurately correspond them and to avoid any kind of misrepresentation and offence. Wait into Samirah al-Abbas, Piper McLean, Hazel Levesque, Leo Valdez, Carter Kane, etc.
3) Talks about parenting without making excuses. He doesn't romanticize bad parenting or tries to forcefulness a connection between children and parents.
four) Well written Female Characters. I cannot stress enough how amazing Uncle Rick's female characters are. Expect at Annabeth Hunt, Sadie, Samirah and others.
5) Tackles issues like bullying, racial discrimination, gender dysphoria, sexuality, religion and parental neglect with utmost delicacy and respect.
There are tons more than I can list, just I would totally suggest you going forwards to reading his books. I hope you lot, you lot won't be disappointed.
